Protecting your home and work place from Fire - Intumescent Paint

Here at Painters Enterprise, we are constantly pushing ourselves to deliver the best quality, value, and safety for our clients.  One of the ways in which we do this is by using intumescent paints
Intumescent paints are fire retardant and provide a greater window of opportunity for escaping a burning building in the event of a fire.  If this sounds like something you need or want to have for your home or business, please continue reading to learn more.

Recently, we have been using this paint on wood truss ceilings and previously coated spray foam insulation but it also works well as fire retardant paint for steel structures.  The product called Safe Coat is actually manufactured right here in Alberta, specifically the city of St. Albert. If you’re interested in this type of paint, keep reading for an overview of intumescent paints - both its benefits and uses!

1. Intumescent paint slows the progress of fire

Though intumescent paint will not stop a fire completely, it will severely limit the growth and spread of the blaze.  This great news because, in the event of a fire, every moment is precious as you evacuate people - and yourself!

Some of you may be wondering just how paint, of all things, can offer fire protection.  Well, intumescent paint expands to many times its original thickness, becoming a fire resistant layer that burns much less quickly.  So the fire is slowed and you’ll have time to get everyone to safety.  Though we, of course, hope that no business or home ever suffers from a fire, it’s a good idea to be prepared.  That’s why we offer fireproof painting in Edmonton - we want to help protect the people and businesses we love and value in a time of crisis.

2. Intumescent paint is durable

Aside from their obvious and important fire resistant qualities, intumescent paint can also be a great choice for your business or place of residence because it’s a very durable paint.  You won’t have to worry about chips and flaking when you choose an intumescent paint application.  As with all of our painting jobs, even those that don’t use such a durable paint, we make sure you get the best quality coat possible.  We want to keep paint damage at a minimum, after all.  For that reason, intumescent paint’s natural hardiness is a great asset.

3. Intumescent paint is versatile in more ways than one

Intumescent paint is versatile enough that it can be applied to a number of diverse surfaces.  Whatever your needs, we will do our best to meet them.  Additionally, this type of paint comes in many different colors which makes it a flexible choice for any painting project you might want us to tackle for you.  With its combination of durability, versatility, and flexibility, intumescent paint is a great choice for many of your painting needs.

4. Intumescent paint can protect your steel structures from corrosion

By this point, we all know that intumescent paint is a great fireproofing paint for a steel structure.  But did you also know that this type of paint protects steel in another way?  That’s right!  By layering on an intumescent coating, this paint keeps steel from corroding almost as well - if not just as well - as materials specifically designed to prevent corroding.  You truly are getting a two-for-one deal when you hire someone - like us! - to paint your steel building/structure here in Edmonton with intumescent paints.

5. Intumescent paint works with more materials than just steel

Intumescent paint is often associated with protecting steel because that was its main purpose for quite some time.  But this type of fire retardant paint actually works well with other materials - especially wood and plaster.  We all know that wood can catch fire quite easily in the event of an unfortunate accident.  But intumescent paint can keep the flames at bay for several minutes (close to an hour, at times) rather than just several seconds.

And plaster?  Well, intumescent paint helps there as well!  With a layer of intumescent paint over your plaster walls, fire will take longer to really get a foothold there - and, by extension, in the building at large.

If you need any kind of structural fire protection, contact us!  We’ll be happy to help you protect your business or home from the destructive, fast-moving power of fire...through the use of intumescent paint.
